They say some of the greatest influences in your life are the books you read. Being a working mom, reading has become a viaduct for sleep. I am trying desperately to break that, while balancing my need for sleep.
Because Romans tells us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, to know the good and perfect will of our Heavenly Father, most of my reading will be of a Christian nature. But there will be the occasional quick fiction read. I am open to any suggestions of any good Christian fiction, which seems to be sparse.

Just found your blog! I'd love to re-instate a weekly phone call with you - don't know when will work time wise -- I'm picking up Kara shortly after 3pm starting tomorrow -- please pray for her -- it's her first day of 1st Grade!! Long story/long summer leading up to this. Meanwhile, I wanted to comment on your blog re: Romans 12. While I totally agree on your reading list -- some of those are on my list as well -- I ran across something really interesting last year regarding Rom. 12 that you might find interesting. I love the passage at the beginning, but I was in one of those moods to keep reading and I read clear through from Romans 12 to Romans 15 and I discovered a cool thing. Somewhere in either Romans 12 or the first part of Romans 13 Paul begins a list and the list sounds a lot like it's a continuation on the theme of God's will. It is a long series of short sentences that describe how God desires for us to act. It occurred to me as I was reading that it seems that Paul is actually unpacking the question of what is the will of God. If, therefore, the will of God is outlined in descriptive language of how a believer should act, in such passages of Romans 12-15 and other places (sermon on the mount, etc. etc.) than it relieves some of the pressure of determining the will of God as it suggests in Romans 12:1-3. I found this to be very encouraging and freeing from some of the loser interpretations of how to hear from God. When I was reading this it came at a time I was watching a couple of friends seriously struggle with the question of how to hear from God and it just hit me as so obvious that the answers from God are already there in scripture. It really struck me that God has ALREADY TOLD US what His will is for us and it is not necessary for us to decifer it from circumstances, as my friends were trying to do. Anyway, just thought I'd throw this in the mix. Meanwhile, how's the reading going?? I'm hoping to get my hands on a copy of the Da Vinci code soon and likewise, the responses. Admittedly, I go into this already biased against the book -- slander and libel are pretty big issues against GOD!! But, I'd like to read it to be able to speak intelligently to my brother and sister-in-law as they question what is the truth. OK -- this little post is becoming a book itself! OK, so when does school start for your big guy and how are you and drop me a line and give me a call and come visit and generally, I miss you!
P.S. -- other big things going on -- too much to say -- too little time!
